Let Me Tell You About My Dad

I don’t know how or who came up with the philosophy of having days dedicated to individuals, or really what goes into actually making a specific day, revolve around a specific theme, meaning or person, but I do know I am very thankful to whomever for this specific day dedicated to fathers.

The philosophy behind this day, of being able to take a second, to stop, and let that father or father figure or figure that took on a important role in your life, know how much you care and have grown from them is priceless.

So let me take my second to tell you about my Dad, Gregory. D. Ashton.

My dad has always had this silent-genuine-caring-ability about him. He doesn’t have to say much to let you know how much he truly cares, it’s just a way he is, that you never question his loyalty or motives, he would take a bullet for anyone in his family, and the fact that he doesn’t have to constantly prove that, is what makes him different. He has a calmness about him, and sincerity, that truly is hard to find. He is just is him, and he’s content with that.

He has this natural energy that makes everyone want to be around him and a focus to ensure he is doing his best for himself and family that I could not have more respect for. He was the first male figure in my life that I ever knew, and he did not take this title lightly, and I thank god for that every day. There are many things that were thrown at us, but he never left, he always stayed, he was always there to make sure he could pick up any pieces that were missing.

He doesn’t ask for much, and doesn’t expect to be given the world, but that is why the world wants to give him everything. He has this underlying strength about him that I admire in anything he does, that was not just given to him, but earned, and a dedication to whatever he is doing, to succeed and be better.

He thrives on the simple things in life, he loves golf, he loves his family, he loves swedish fish, he loves to dance, he loves making buttered mushrooms, he loves to be on Pam and John’s boat, he loves sweater vests, he loves his brown work shoes, he loves to laugh, he loves his third child Winston (dog), he loves to be around those he loves, and for this I love him.

On this day, if you are lucky enough to share the day with whomever it is this day allows you to celebrate, take advantage of every second, and make that person realize what impact they have. Or say a prayer, to remind them of the impact they had, and remember to tell them you love them

I couldn’t ask for a better dad, and I'm proud to be your daughter. See you soon G. Ashton, enjoy your day.

Xoxo
