Hands Off, Mouths Shut : A writing to aid in awareness of how not to be a creep in the workplace

Irked, annoyed, but not shook. Why am I not shook, or surprised, or throwing a tantrum at my television screen (may have had a few ill words shouted at it this morning) BUT, why is my reaction so non-chalant you ask? Because we as females have grown used to the disgusting looks, cat calls, un-wanted touches, small smirks, full body scans we get on a daily basis.

We've learned to value ourselves and pivot any insecure or un-wanted emotions that rise to the surface when we inevitably must deal with these situations, and understand it says more about the immature prick behaving like a hormone induced teen-ager then it does ourselves. It doesn't have to do with what we’re wearing, how we speak, the way we walk, or how our legs are crossed.

The reality of it is this culture that we have allowed men to get away with every.little.thing. I mean it's like they have been given a hall pass to life, and especially when it comes to how they control themselves in a work setting with females around. I'm not even going to dip into the confident female pond, and how men cannot handle a female who has integrity, uses her brain, speaks her mind, and basically trumps all over him, that's another story.

What I want to focus on is again, after waking up, CNN reporting on another man of power who abused his power, to make others feel power-less, and ring ring, you guessed it, he used it on females. What do we have to say to the male race to get it through their heads? We do not want to be touched, we do not want to be flirted with, we do not need your inappropriate compliments, hell we don't need any compliments from you, the actual change of behavior and respect, and acknowledgement that we are a human being, who should be treated as such, would be plenty.

There is no room for this consistent frat party behavior in any work environment anymore. As females we must start standing up for ourselves, for the smallest gesture that makes us feel uncomfortable, or the slightest wink. We have worked incredibly hard to get where we are, juggling multiple hats, and the last thing we need is to deal with unruly pigs who can’t keep it in their pants.

For the love of all that is good in this world, grow up, learn, and do better males, just do better.
